Breaking down the cost of remodeling rooms in your home.

Being a homeowner now a days is a lot like putting your wallet in a boxing ring for 15 rounds with Apollo Creed. It is going to take a beating, but I’ll be darned if it isn’t one of the most rewarding experiences. Even in newer homes, it is a part of the homeowner’s journey that a day will come when something goes wrong, needs fixing, or simply, just requires an update.

Whatever it may be, Remodels eventually need to happen. When looking to remodel specific rooms, it helps to educate yourself on just how expensive certain rooms can be.

So, wrap up your hands, tie those shoes tight and let G2 train you like the Mickey to your Rocky for the fight of your life.

The Kitchen

It is probably not a surprise to anyone that the kitchen is the most expensive room to renovate. There are numerous elements that go into any kitchen, from appliances, electrical, Hvac, cabinets… you get the idea. They are one of the most labor-intensive jobs any contractor can take on, adding into the price. Not to mention the covid-19 pandemic took its toll to the current situation of the construction sector. Material prices have spiked tremendously, and these rising prices not only apply to materials but to skilled labor as well.

Kitchen remodels vary greatly and depending on the size and complexity of the room and remodel design. High end counter tops and cabinetry do not come cheap. If you choose to remodel with custom cabinets for an upscale remodel, the cabinets alone might cost you $30,000 depending on the type, material, and amount of cabinetry required. However, in my opinion, if possible, for you, custom cabinetry is ALWAYS worth the cost.

So, how much does a kitchen cost to remodel?

Again, it all depends on your situation, but a kitchen renovation can go for anywhere from $40,00 up to $100,000 or more! Nevertheless, the final pricing will be based on the scale of the remodeling that you desire for your kitchen which is why it is always advisable to work with reliable contractors to secure the best results.

Is it worth the investment?

At this point, you may be turned off to the idea of updating your kitchen. It is a lot of money after all, so you got to be asking yourself is it worth it.

Well, the ROI on the average kitchen renovation is around 54%! So, you greatly increase the value of your home with any remodel but especially with a kitchen.

The Bathroom

Like kitchens, bathroom remodels deal with a ton of extra plumbing and electrical work, which is labor intensive and does not come cheap. While significantly cheaper then a kitchen, Re-tiling, contingent on the kind of tile work, is also quite expensive (with labor and material costs.)

Bathrooms are also one of the most expensive because often the bathrooms being remodeled are master baths, and some master bathrooms can be as large as an additional room. Master baths tend to include double sinks, a separate bath and a separate shower, in addition to a toilet.

The average bathroom remodel, depending on the type of bathroom, sqft, materials and so on, Can cost anywhere from $20,000-$75,000 ! Again, in the end of the day what is important is that you get what you need vs what you want. Wants and needs should balance out in order to maximize your budget.

Even though you can save money depending on the materials you purchase, the labor of a bathroom remodel is still going to cost you a pretty penny.

However, that money isn’t for loss. The average bathroom ROI is upwards of 70% with higher scale renovation ROI’s at 60%. So no matter what you chose the value of your home increases greatly!

Honorable Mention, Room Additions

Now not everyone is in the market for a kitchen or bathroom upgrade at the moment, but every home owner has these rooms. But an even less percentage of home owners are in the market for a room addition. That’s why they make the honorable mentions.

Now I couldn’t make a blog about the most expensive remodels without including THE most expensive addition a home owner could make.

Room additions are more than your standard upgrade, they completely change the floor plan of the entire house. So permitting aside, the architectural drawings, planning and slew of crews needed to make they possible are the main factors in driving up the cost. However they also yield the highest ROI at 50-70% (depending on the room).
