Room Conversion: Bedroom to Bathroom

Project Cost: $59,665

As residential contractors, every now and then a project will come along that will spark your every ability, creativity and patience. This year, that project for G2 was this home renovation in New Port Richey. The home was originally built all the way back in 1916 with some of it not having been updated in almost 50 years!

It’s not everyday you get to work on a century old home, so this kind of job excites people like us. As we raised our jaws off the floor and got to work on designing and drawing the plans, sparks flew off our pencils like a grind on steel. Contractors Christmas came early as we sunk our teeth into this construction time capsule and *carefully* tore it apart down to the WW1 studs.

Follow along below as we go in-depth into every stage of this renovation below. Next the bedroom that became the master bathroom.

Before

We started by removing everything but the floors. The base board, ceiling tile, wall panels, and doors all needed to go.

During

Then came framing the old bedroom door to fill in the wall. Punching through the back of the bedroom closet, making a hallway to the master bedroom. However we separated the original bedroom closet, framing off walls to make 2 walk in hall closets. Finally we closed off the area around the toilet and framed a half wall for the corner shower. And of course, dry wall for the entire room.

Our Favorite Things

On every project there are a few design aspects that will always stick out to us as just perfect. We like to take this section to highlight a few of those.

To start with the obvious, it used to be a bedroom! I mean I know this industry is the disney for homes but c’mon now this is awesome. Seriously, our crew is absolutely stellar and the best in the business. To run full plumbing, tile work, a connecting hallway and 2 side closets is no small feat.

Second, keeping with the rustic theme from the kitchen take a look at this theme. Notice the closet doors? They are the original doors from 1916 reused  as barn doors for the hall closets.

Finally we have to mention the vanity. The vanity was originally a cabinet from the 50’s used as decoration in the living room, converted to house a sink! Completely custom and just shows how a little creativity can make a space unique.
